Millions of people are so focused on the here and now, with little thought put toward the future.
Simply Put:
Plan for your expenses ahead of time, especially the big ones. The further out, the better it helps.
Simple Disclaimer:
This concept is NOT the same as an emergency budget! This should be a separate pool of funds that is dedicated to big purchases. This is not mandatory as everyone is in their own unique situation, but the concept is that this money will be spent on bigger ticket items. Like new tires, car insurance, car maintenance, etc.
Simple example:
For those who drive, tires is a big cost. Yes you can buy one tire at a time, but it still cost a couple of hundred dollars easily. Plan this expense ahead of time.
Other examples of big expenses:
Car insurance (progressive every 6 months)
New game system
New phone (hopefully the Oneplus N10 5G)
Car maintenance
Warehouse membership (Costco, etc)
Amazon
Other annual or semi annual costs
Simple math:
Let’s assume that your car insurance is $500 USD every 6 months.
If you don’t prepare, that’s $500 out of pocket on the spot. If you forgot to plan, that’s a HUGE hit and could easily impact other bills.
Now $500 over 6 months is under $84 a month.
Even smaller:
Amazon is $120 a year. Unprepared, that’s $120 on any given day.
Over 12 months of planning and saving, that’s $10 a month.
Simple note:
Certain things lower in price such as insurance whereas maintenance may increase. Just keep the extra money in a savings, just incase maintenance goes up, but insurance or the cost of a phone decreases. It will even out and help to build that emergency fund.
Simple conclusion:
Alas, preparation is a key to saving and spending money correctly. Patience, like with all things, is rough but it WILL pay off.
